Coffee Bean Ink

from $4.50
sale

I know what you’re saying. “Coffee? Really?” Yes, really! One of the first yards of fabric I ever dyed used espresso grounds from the local coffee hut in town. I fell in love with all the coffee shades right then and there.

The ink is made from the 1/3 cup or so left in the pot that, by the end of the morning, is too dark and gritty for anyone but a cowboy to drink. It is collected, slowly reduced, and then strained and bottled like the others, with a binder (to make it permanent) and a clove (to preserve it). That may not sound very glamorous, but no one argues when they see the results. A totally smooth, rich brown that warms you up.

If you can only get one brown, it should probably be this one.

Our inks can be used for calligraphy, drawing, painting, or staining wood. You might discover even more uses once you get to know them!
